Do magnetic phone mounts work with phone cases?
Short version: yes. The only question is where the metal disc goes.
The short answer
Yes. A magnetic mount holds a metal disc, so it works with a case as long as the disc is in the right place. With a thin case you can stick the disc to the phone under the case or on the back of the case. With a thick case, stick the disc on the outside of the case for the strongest hold.
How the hold works
The mount's magnet does not grip your phone. It grips the thin metal disc you stick on the back of the phone or its case. Anything between the magnet and the disc adds distance, which is why case thickness is the thing that matters.
Thin case: disc inside or outside
With a slim case, sticking the disc to the phone and putting the case back on keeps it out of sight. Sticking it to the outside of the case works too, and it is the quicker option if you swap cases.
Thick or rugged case: disc on the outside
With a thick case, put the disc on the outside of the case, so the magnet meets the metal directly. That gives you the strongest hold.
Does it work with every phone?
Yes. Any phone works once the metal disc is on the back or inside the case. Two discs come in the box, so you can set up a second phone.
Will it scratch the phone or case?
Both magnets are covered in soft rubber, so they won't scratch your phone or its case.
